Equally at home on the Concert or Opera stages, George’s repertoire has ranged from the music of Bach and Handel up to that of contemporary composers such as Peter Maxwell Davies and Peter Eötvös. His recent Opera appearances in Salzburg include Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Escamillo in Carmen, Eugene Onegin and all the major Mozart baritone roles. Notable appearances elsewhere include Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro at Glyndebourne, Onegin at the Buxton International Festival, Leporello with the Nederlandse Reisopera, and Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Aldeburgh Festival.

On the concert platform, recent highlights include Mahler’s Symphony No.8 with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Orchestra, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. He has appeared regularly at English National Opera and the London and Göttingen Handel Festivals and has given Lieder recitals at Lille Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, the Wigmore Hall in London and the Oxford Lieder Festival.

George was born in Oxford and was a chorister at Christ Church Cathedral, touring and recording extensively. He subsequently studied at St. John’s College, Cambridge, the Royal Academy of Music and the International Opernstudio Zürich. George is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, a recipient of the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal and a multiple Österreichischer Musiktheaterpreis nominee.
